En español bóxer alemán o simplemente bóxer, es una raza de perro alemana de trabajo y compañía. De tipo moloso - grupos de perros caracterizados por tener una constitución musculosa, fuertes mandíbulas, gran cabeza y hocico corto, lo que les convierte en excelentes guardianes y defensores - y tamaño medio.
Viven de diez a catorce años y se caracterizan por tener tendencia a la genética lo que significa que una fuerza evolutiva que actúa junto con la selección natural cambiando las frecuencia alélicas de las especies en el tiempo.
Su físico hace que sea un perro imponente. La raza fue obtenida por medio del cruce de un brabant bullenbeisser y un buldog de antaño, ya extinguidas.
La primera vez que apareció un bóxer fue en 1895 en Munich. Se convirtió con el paso del tiempo en un "perro de guerra." La raza adquirió mucha importancia durante la Primera Guerra Mundial y la Segunda Guerra Mundial.
La raza fue utilizada por el ejército nazi para enviar mensajes, transportar cables de comunicación, recoger los cuerpos de los soldados heridos, y todo eso en medio del campo de batalla.
En la actualidad, sigue siendo elegido como perro policía del K-9 en distintas partes del mundo. En EE.UU. es una de las razas de perros más famosas, se ubica en el 7º lugar de la lista de estadísticas 2012 de American Kennel Club y es debido al carácter que porta y sobre todo por su trato lúdico y protector hacia los niños.
