Bichón Maltés

Es una raza de perro spaniel -perro cobrador o perros cobradores - de tamaño pequeño. Su origen se encuentra en la sierra de Chipre, hará unos tres mil años. 

Se le relaciona desde la época del imperio romano, aparece representado en piezas de cerámica griega y es mencionado en muchos escritos de poetas e historiadores romanos. 

Es la raza faldera más antigua europea. Fue llevada a varios lugares en las Costas del Mediterráneo. Vivían en las zonas portuarias de las ciudades marítimas para cazar ratas y ratones que se escondían entre almacenes y camarotes de los barcos.

Con unas patas cortas y rectas, poseen una elegante cola cubierta de abundante pelo. Suelen vivir entre nueve y dieciséis años , pero algunos superan esta edad.
