The cheetah is the fastest land animal. It can reach 115 km / h in short races. Its name comes from the medieval Latin gattus pardus, meaning "cat leopard." It is carnivorous and belongs to the family of felines. He lives in the plains and plains of Africa. Hunting with their look and, of course, to his great speed. They have a privileged view: see perfectly in the dark and watch their prey over long distances. No rush at the time of the hunt. The ears are small and flat and flatten against the head at the moment of maximum tension, ie when going to pounce on its prey. Nasal drivers are larger than those of other felids, to allow entry of additional amounts of oxygen needed in quick race to the dam. Their legs are longer and thinner than the rest of the cats. The feet have a structure similar to the dog, with hard pads and non-retractable claws that enable them to stop quickly and make sudden turns. His tail is between sixty and eighty centimeters, measure around 1.50 meters and usually weigh about 43 kilos. The gueopardos are polygamous. When females to breed a litter end up seeking one or several males that fertilize. Puppies number is two or three per litter. The gueopardo was about to disappear from our planet due to their inability to defend their young, and also for hunting. In Asia is considered an endangered species, and on the open plains of tropical Africa, a threatened species.

Cats have highly developed senses of smell, sight and touch. They live in isolation, are more autonomous and independent animals living in groups. They are very territorial, from small compete with the rest of his brothers to be closer to his "mom" when maman. They are very clever, they grow predation practiced techniques to achieve their effective hunting. Despite being the smallest cat in the world, keep hunting behavior of all big cats and many of its physical characteristics. They can claim to be great because they are stealthy hunters, climbers and experts working predators. It is believed that the African wildcat is its closest ancestor. From an early age learn to mark their territory by scratching trees with their claws, which also serves to keep them sharper. Its fingers are glands that secrete a scent that is steeped in the place scratched. In the nose, around the eyes, on the chin and the side of the mouth, also have glands that secrete an odor so many times, when rubbed on the legs of their owners or furniture, indicate what is property. This usually do when you are happy and relaxed. They use their front legs for pushing, slapping and catching. If your legs are bent and do not take the grip means they are playing. Its distinctive purr during childhood they learn to recognize them and their mothers as adults is a sign of welcome and subordination to its owner. The movement of the tail is a sign of joy and concern, as in dogs. When they play and are entertained, the tail is held straight and upright. The whiskers reflect your mood. When you are relaxed, happy and eager to play, the whiskers are fully extended and when are curious, they go forward, but if they are afraid or are irritated, his whiskers are thrown back. Ears can move in all directions. If you are relaxed, kept upright and mobile, if the cast fight back to avoid bites and when they are angry the lead forward. The mouth keep it open only to smell. In fact when a cat is frightened or angry, show teeth and hiss because they feel threatened. They are good friends of men. There are more than 60 breeds of cats, but the most popular and well known are, among others, Angora, Siamese, Persian - with over two hundred varieties - or bailinés. Like dogs, every race is different not only in appearance, but by their attitudes and character.

Domestic cats (Felis silvestris catus) are smaller cats there. They have a flexible backbone and strong, plus an excellent sight and hearing. They move like fish in water in the dark because their eyes are provided with a reflective layer, tapetum lucidum, which serves to reflect light onto the retina and increase light intensity up to thirty or forty times. Where there is much light, their pupils contract so that you can only see in their eyes a thin vertical line, and in the dark - as we saw in the previous paragraph - they enlarge to fill the entire eye. Thus is how to capture the faint light. His bones - more than 230 - are strongly attached to muscles by tendons. They have long hind legs and strong paws. Its skeleton is uniquely suited for hunting as it is very similar to the other cats. The cats whiskers, called vibrissae, hairs with sensory nerves are functioning as the sense of touch, thanks to them, capture any air movement. If the animal is relaxed, his whiskers are thrown forward, if tense, backwards. The claws of cats or "multi-legged" have five toes with sharp fingernails, hairless pads have you can walk quietly and at the same time, cushion falls. Her nails allow them to vertical ascents and cling to the ground when running. All these physical qualities make them a true expert in falls. Cats seem to like heights and are able to walk on very small surfaces. In them, his balance, eyes and brain act swiftly to cushion the blow should fall. When you are about to touch the ground, his legs are relaxed to give more suspension and absorb shock.

Legend: "The beloved cat"
In 2500 BC, in ancient Egypt, cats were sacred and export was forbidden, to the point that when they died they were mourned. A real cats - pets of the pharaohs-the embalmed, mummified and buried in graves prepared especially for them, in small cat-shaped coffins. The Egyptians worshiped the cat goddess Bastet, which symbolized love and fertility.
