Razas de Gatos: Angora - Turco

Los turcos-angora son de las razas de gato más antiguas que existen. Originarios de la región de Ankara, en Turquía Central.

El termino angora ha sido aplicado, sin ningún sentido, para designar a cualquier gato de pelo largo y frondoso. En España muchos gatos comunes de pelo abundante, incluso persas sin pedigrí, les llaman erróneamente angoras.

Los turco - angora fueron los primeros gatos pelilargos introducidos en Europa, en el siglo XVI. Aparecieron en la ciudad de Angora, ahora Ankara, y rápidamente conquistaron el corazón de todos los ciudadanos.

No obstante su "reinado" no duró mucho, no se sabe bien qué pasó, pero la raza llegó casi a extinguirse. Cual Ave Fénix resurgió de sus cenizas ,durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, volvió a despertar interés y en Estados Unidos resucitaron la raza bajo el nombre de Angora - Turco. 

Al principio el angora - turco tenía el cuerpo blanco y algunas manchas grises en el cuello y en la cara. El color despareció con el tiempo hasta quedarse completamente blanco. 

Suelen ser gatos pequeños o de tamaño mediano, con un cuerpo largo, esbelto, atlético y musculoso. Las hembras suelen pesar unos 3 kilos y los machos un kilo más. 

Casi todos tienen los ojos de color azul, aunque también se pueden encontrar en otros colores como ámbar o dorado, excepto los orientales que siempre tienen los ojos de color azul. 

Son inteligentes, activos y curiosos. No son muy activos y suelen maullar mucho. Les gusta la paz y la tranquilidad por lo que para ellos es mejor tener un único dueño o dos como mucho. 

Se caracterizan por ser especialmente devotos con sus dueño, al que siguen constantemente para supervisar sus movimientos, pero sin molestar, además de ser fieles, son atentos y muy mimosos. 

No hay nada que les atraiga más que escalar a lugares complicados e inaccesibles, y contemplar las cosas desde los puntos más altos de las casas. 

Son educados y afectuosos, pero no les gusta especialmente que les cojan mucho en brazos. 

Pueden aprender hasta más de diez ordenes. Uno de los juegos más recomendables para que aprendan rápido es el de buscar y traer un juguete que con anterioridad se les ha lanzado. 

Prefieren la vida hogareña, pero necesitan su espacio para hacer ejercicios y jugar cuando les apetezca.
